01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
At the bottom of a flight of stairs leading underground, Chikashitsu presents itself as a bar, yet the kitchen turns out cooking substantial enough to merit a visit purely for dinner. Served from lunchtime onward, the house specialty yakuzen curry incorporates multiple herbal aromatics while holding back any medicinal bitterness, yielding a spicy, deeply layered profile. At midday it arrives as a set with soup and salad, while the evening menu also features an appetizer portion of the curry sauce alone, ideal for grazing alongside a drink.
From Southeast Asian Flavours to Western-Style Comfort Food
Another staple is khao man gai, prepared with low-temperature-cooked chicken breast that stays moist and tender, served with scallion sauce, aromatic sauce, fresh coriander, and sesame seeds. The kitchen also turns out crisp Japanese fried chicken with a choice of four seasoning styles—including yurinchi-style scallion sauce and spicy málà—along with demi-toma rice, featuring beef brisket and tomatoes braised in red wine and demi-glace, and cumin-spiced sautéed pork. Evening carb options round out the selection with Napolitan spaghetti and yakisoba seasoned with choices like black vinegar soy sauce or málà, ensuring plenty to eat for anyone dropping in simply for a meal.
Evenings Accompanied by Music and an Expansive Bar Selection
The drinks list accommodates varied moods and dishes, spanning Scotch and bourbon whiskies, a tasting flight of 2 craft beers, and a rotation of 4 regional sakes, including warming hot sake during colder months. Groups can opt for a timed free-flow drink plan paired with 2 dishes for casual gatherings. On select nights, the space—equipped with a drum kit and musical instruments—hosts jam sessions and live performances, weaving together live sound, drinks, and warm food.
